Pomona Induction Streetlight
Pomona is another city near me which has also converted to induction streetlights. Unlike the City of Brea which picked the "New Jersey" style shoe shaped fixtures, Pomona decided to keep a classic look and went with semi cutoff cobraheads.

This fixture is a GE M250R that had been retrofitted with a 135 watt "EcoWatt" induction lamp system by Tanko Lighting based in San Fransisco. It may look like any ordinary streetlight to most people but the NEMA tag and the white light at night (vs the more common orange High Pressure Sodium) would tell otherwise.

The majority of these fixtures are found along Mission Blvd and Holt Blvd. They brought back the old "deluxe white mercury vapor" look to the area but with better efficiency.

Yep, got one of these bad boys in my collection!!!!! My favorite GE fixture by far.

Look at the latch the easiest way to see the difference...also the R1 has a pointier front than the R2 which is flat in front

Look and compare close up this should help you here

Can you get some side shots of these and the M-400A induction lights?

I'll try to next time I'm in the area. Other than the "clean and brand new" appearance *(probably a little weathered by now though) as they were cleaned up and powder coated as part of the refurbishing/retrofit process, they don't look any different than a normal M250R or M400A

thanks. Smile I wonder how much it costs per unit to retrofit those streetlights? I wonder if they sell just the induction gear sort of like a do-it-yourself kit.

The website lists retrofit kits (it shows a setup to go in a post-top) with all the electrical parts and mounting brackets as well as individual lamps and drivers themselves.

According to a bid I found on the City of Pomona's website, it cost $190 to $245 depending on wattage for a refurbished and retrofitted fixture. (Compare that to about $700 for a BETALED) I'd probably contact them to see if it's possible to get the parts individually or a kit to go in your existing cobrahead fixture. Jason Tanko himself is a streetlight enthusiast as much we are.

I have also seen ITT 25a in Pomona.

Hmm ~ $200 isn't that bad considering the fixture is virutally reborn. Plus with induction gear that's a plus. I had no idea the owner of Tanko Lighting was a light enthusiast! Explains why Tanko is all about reusing old fixtures! I love that he's been able to make a solid company that is helping to keep some of the vintage street light population alive. Smile
