Philips 60 watt Longer Life "Square" bulb
A 60 watt Philips Longer Life "Square" bulb.

I remember these being made from the mid-80's to the early 90's and sold by Home Depot. They have an unusual cylindrical shape vs the more common round shape that most people are familiar with when it comes to an incandescent bulb

What was the reasoning behind that shape, at least the box claim? I will admit Its neat.

I think it was thought that the stretched out sides would caste more light outwards. I don't think there was really any scentific logic behind that but hey, they're cool lamps!
