Westinghouse Blacklighter
OV-25 with a 400w mercury vapor black light lamp. Not as impressive as I thought it would be but I always wanted to try this. The refractor causes too much scatter and the overall output doesn't even appear to be as good as a 2x40w fluorescent striplight with BLB tubes. Plus it gets extremely hot. But I still think it would look cool to use these on a totally dark street, making just the lines on the pavement glow.

That looks cool! Cool

Nice! Too bad about the non-effectiveness. I think the problem is the refractor. The glass is absorbing most of the light. Did you try it with no refractor?

That looks wicked! Very Happy

Yeah, you can see the refractor glowing quite a bit.A Wood's glass refractor would be a lot better but would look pretty strange lol and I doubt such a thing was ever made.

Could you imagine these being used on all the streets Laughing

That looks awesome. Too bad it doesn't work all that well brightness-wize..
Still would be cool to setup if you ever did a party or something.

Hmm, where did you get the mercury vapor black light bulb, cause those are very rare to find. Very Happy

eBay, I believe. They are not cheap.
streetlight98   [Aug 21, 2016 at 02:57 PM]
Have you tried this without the refractor in place? The glass is probably absorbing the UV, which would explain why it doesn't seem as effective.
joe_347V   [Aug 22, 2016 at 07:33 AM]
Yeah that's my guess too. I also wonder if a FCO glass would be better.

they make BLB LEDs... Ithink a BLB LED street light would be really cool!
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Oct 15, 2017 at 09:05 PM]
Cool, but would it really have a practical application? Oh, sure, highlighting all the drug paraphanelia laying in public parks maybe... Laughing

I've seen trucks with BLB bar lights on them. My friend actually just bought one. He hasn't gotten around to installing it though.

BLB light bar...my only thought is WHY?! Laughing Razz
streetlight98   [Oct 18, 2017 at 09:33 PM]
He ordered it for a haunted house he's making but he's going to try it on his truck just to see what it's like. If he likes it he'll put it back on the truck permanently after the haunted house.

Haha, haunted off-road trail, running rivers in the dark? Laughing
