A Rather Sad Sight
Here's a pile of cobra-bits, this is the [url=http://www.langleyutilities.com] company [/url] that I got some of my lights from. Mine were in the exact same spot as these pieces. As you can see it's a Street View shot taken [url=http://goo.gl/maps/pwE93] here. [/url] I'm hoping to go back there this fall and see what they have.

yeah my mom feels bad becuase i had begged her on sunday to let me and my dad come back that day and put them all in the truck but she wanted me to get permission (which IS the right thing to do, but i mean they were laying out in the open so what do the contractors expect?) and sure enough the very next say they're gone. Confused

My parents would go nuts Laughing

i'd like a MTO truss arm too but 70 pounds! i can only imagine the shipping cost to here. Shocked
gailgrove   [Aug 27, 2013 at 04:11 AM]
Yeah, I think it'd be cheaper to come here and get it Laughing A few weeks ago I also managed to get a fire hydrant from a family friend. Man it's heavy! It's going to live outside somewhere, no way am I trying to get it into the basement!
joe_347V   [Aug 27, 2013 at 04:11 AM]
I don't mind one but I really don't have room for it. Razz

@Mike, it might be cheaper for you to download the plans off MTO's site have someone in your area make you one. Laughing

confession: i haven't come out of the "lighting closet" and my parents don't know about my hobby, and i'm 25.. bahahhaa.

For you brampton dudes, if you want a new AEL 125 with an 8' e pole, workers left one on ching rd s of queen a week ago, technically it's curb side garbage if you ask me. I have a keen eye, but have no physical matter/evidence of this hobby. Sad

Are the bolts that are holding the arms to the poles have regular heads or are they carriage bolts with domed heads? If they are a regular nut and bolt, you may be able to undo them using two adjustable wrenches if they are not badly seized.
streetlight98   [Aug 27, 2013 at 11:29 AM]
they're hex head bolts. they spin when you turn them but don't loosen up.
lite_lover   [Aug 27, 2013 at 08:38 PM]
Maybe it would be possible to use one wrench to hold onto the head of the bolt, and use the base of the arm to rest the wrench handle on it to keep it from moving so you can use more force to try and undo the nut with the other wrench, if not too badly rusted. I know it's not easy, and not a good location to stick around, but it would be nice if you could get yourself a couple arms. Cool

update: the poles are all gone! good thing i got the A2s when i did! Shocked i think the maintenance crew likely moved the poles unless a scrapper wen off the deep and and chopped the poles into sections with a pipe cutter. Laughing
Model25FanForever   [Aug 28, 2013 at 02:17 AM]
Talk about timing Mike Shocked You were better off stealing them because they went to scrap probably now and I guess they wouldn't hav given you them anyways good stuff Razz
joe_347V   [Aug 28, 2013 at 02:19 AM]
Yeah, I didn't think everything would be gone so fast. Shocked
streetlight98   [Aug 28, 2013 at 03:32 AM]
yeah I lucked out! (and so did the two M-400A2s lol) I don't know how long the fixtures were laying there before i found them on sunday but i would assume it wasn't too long since they were still there until monday. i guess maybe someone reported me tinkering with the A2s and maintenance ordered the poles to be moved out of public access? IMO, by leaving them out in the open you're saying "come and get 'em!" Laughing
joe_347V   [Aug 28, 2013 at 03:50 PM]
It's possible but it seems odd for them to move the lights and the poles separately though.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 28, 2013 at 05:12 PM]
Well in the end you got 2 fixtures Razz
streetlight98   [Aug 28, 2013 at 09:15 PM]
Joe; do you mean odd for the scrappers or maintenance? Maybe the scrappers didn't have a pipe cutter on hand so they took the fixtures and planned to come back for the poles. Since the M-400A2s were on arms that were still attched to the pole, they probably planned to take those lights with the poles, so i'm extremely glad i had good timing. BTW, that person hasn't gotten back to me about the lights yet. I don't need them to anymore anyways. Razz Laughing
gailgrove   [Aug 28, 2013 at 09:22 PM]
If they do, act all disappointed and say they were all taken away. Laughing
streetlight98   [Aug 29, 2013 at 03:11 AM]
yeah i plan to give them a sob story when they finally reply to me. If the OV-50, M-1000, and others come down I'm not even gonna bother asking. Hopefully it'll be a year or so before that so i'll be driving and can get them myself lol
joe_347V   [Aug 29, 2013 at 04:10 AM]
@Mike, I meant the maintenance/construction crews. I figure it would have been easier for them to move them all at once. I could see scrappers taking two trips to remove everything though. They don't really want to hang around too long for someone nosy to call the cops on them.
streetlight98   [Aug 29, 2013 at 11:28 AM]
they weren't removed separatly though. Groups of lights were removed though. First a pair of 320W PSMH AEL 125s was removed then like half the lights in the lot (don't know where they went). Then the ones that weren't in the way of the new lights (those five i saw) stayed up until the project was completed.
