Similarly, my late mother related a story to me of her and her late husband remodeling a room in their old house in Hawaii they called the "swamp" (damp concrete floor, exposed studs, etc). into a bathroom/sauna. This of course required rerouting wiring. They took out all the fuses (house was an older one and this happened in the 80s) and checked all the outlets, lights, etc to make sure everything was off. Husband goes to cut into a wire with a pair of lopping shears, gets partway through, there's a shower of sparks, she knocks him off the ladder with a broom handle, and it knocked him out for awhile! Someone had indeed wired something to the pole (I guess the above reason could indeed be the reason why).

LOL really? Wow! We are the original owners of our house so there are no wiring hack jobs that we may have to worry about. Plus the house is from 2003 so relatively up-to-date wiring. We did notice though that the outside lights for the front door and garage do not have a breaker other than the main breaker so when we originally changed them back in like 2011 we had to shut off the whole house. When I had to replace one again (got destroyed by a basket ball during a party) I just said screw it and just taped the switch in the OFF position so no one would accidentally turn it on. Everyone says keeping the breaker on isn't safe but the breaker IS a switch! It's just a switch designed to trip after a certain amount of current is drawn.
BTW, I wonder what amperage those fuse cut-outs are...
Yes existing installations don't require being moved to an exterior wall,just new installations or repairs from tampering. The dopers try to avoid tampering with the meter base because it's too obvious if the seal is missing,sometimes though if they know someone that works for the power company then they can get a new seal. They like to tap in before the meter then the house appears to have the same power consumption as usual. I don't think the guy saw any jail time,probably just a slap on the wrist and after went looking around for another place to rent. lol Not sure if he was fined,or charged with anything...don't know if he would've had to pay for the fire dept's time or police time. I should have charged him though for fuel that my generator used. lol Yeah sure you can share this story hehe . @ Mike hmm that is odd there isn't a breaker for your outside lights,you will have to look inside the panel and try and trace the wire one day see what's goin' on in there. The cut-outs can range in amperage,I have several of them from about 3 to 15 amp if I remember correctly,they can go higher depending on the application.
Yes it was and is wired through a transfer switch,I have greenhouses as well and between the house and greenhouses would be nice to have 30 kw and it could handle all loads no problem. Yes the fuse links can be up to 100 or 200 if they feed several houses or branch lines, smaller amp ones would typically be used on a distribution transformer supplying one home or a couple streetlights etc.
Yeah but it's wired with two 20 amp breakers (one on each leg) so in reality it's a 4.8Kw Not that I ever use more than that anyway!

Yup, or just redo the entire setup which is what really needs to happen...it broke off in a spot where it would probably vibrate apart a new weld quicklky...
Oh yeah...I have this flexible piece that I might replace it with...kinda like a 2" version of those flexible copper connectors you hook up a water heater with.
I've thought of just getting rid of the muffler entirely but it would be a lot louder and from what I understand engines need a certain amount of back pressure or whatever...
Oh yeah it would be quite a bit louder,it shouldn't be too much of a problem to reattach the muffler with the flexible coupling. Yeah gas engines benefit from some back pressure, diesels love to breathe so the less of a restriction the better lol.
