[Gone] Newly Installed 8-8-8
I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that they used 8-8-8s on some of the nearside signals when they reconstructed Queen's Quay in Toronto. Even more interesting is that they didn't install backplates with them. The 8-8-8s are mix between Peek Traffic and Fortran models.

Good to see some new 8-8-8`s. I don't think they will have a big comeback. Hopefully they do use them in the GTA again

Yeah so far the only new 8-8-8s aside from this are the ones for bikes/buses/streetcars. I think the MTO still allows 8-8-8s for roads less than 50 km/h too.

It seems they are only used in tiny spaces where its hard to see the signals. This is one and the CGE one downtown Brampton at the train bridge is reasonable

Update: The city went by and replaced this with a 12-8-8 Fortran with reflective backplate. A bit overkill IMO as this was only a secondary head that didn't need to be a full 12-8-8 with backplate.

Sounds like they just put a useless signal up that wasnt needed,.

Sorry for on such a late post, but the contractor for this was Beacon Utility Ltd, and after the reconstruction,so I'm guessing Guild Electric came by, with the city's approval, and replaced them with the 12-8-8s.

Interesting bit of info, I know that section of Queens Quay had a bunch of modifications made after opening, like the new signage for the streetcar tunnel entrance and the blue STOP boxes for the bike lanes.
Kelvin3157   [Mar 12, 2018 at 05:05 AM]
Well the new signage had to kept on updating to keep drivers of the tunnels.. until recently.

They've also added flashing Fortran beacons to the tunnel as well.

Yeah not surprised about the new flashing beacons. There are always cars driving into the tunnel. Laughing There was one on Saturday IIRC.
