American Electric Dura Star 2000
OK guys don't hurt your eyes LOL!! Thought this would be a great way to celebrate the additional space on GoL, by adding a pic of my Dura Ugly LOL
Even though it's ugly,it is still interesting with the fiberglass housing and aluminum slip-fitter adapter.

Whoa Whoa Whoa!....Plastic Reflector.....uhhhhh now the durastar is Starting to Turn my Stomach again! Rolling Eyes

This is not as FUGLY as some of the LED fixtures I have seen. Just for the hell of it, let's see this thing lit.

Yuck! a plastic reflector how cheap can you get Confused
mercuryvaporrocks   [May 21, 2010 at 09:28 PM]
Thank god I don't see them around where I live, my stomach would churn all the time. Laughing
Form109   [May 22, 2010 at 01:22 AM]
the Reflector must be made of some sort of High Temperature Thermoplastic....Still...Metal seems like the Way to go...or Porcelain like a Radial Wave or Crescent moon!
Medved   [May 22, 2010 at 01:26 AM]
Plastic reflectors actually perform better, as they are not prone to corrosion degradation, are easier to seal and allow more complex shape for advanced optical beam patterning. But why the ... the outer shell should have such crazy shape? The outer is clearly not one piece with the reflector, so there is no technical reason for such shape.
lite_lover   [May 22, 2010 at 01:27 AM]
I imagine the reflector is similar to the plastic back housing of a car and truck headlight assembly with a reflective chrome layer. At least the lens is real glass LOL.

@ Medved: I don't know why the crazy shape, and the ignitor sticking out the bottom...it's not that easy to pull out without prying the locking tabs on the inside.

@ Tmcdllr: Sure,I will take a pic of it lit soon.
GullWhiz   [May 22, 2010 at 04:49 PM]
The ignitor....I have one....but it actually falls off too easily LOL, one shake...it drops!

if i had to use an AE Cobrahead id Go with a 125 or 325 over the Durastar.
gailgrove   [May 23, 2010 at 02:03 AM]
Well for the 2000 it would be the 115 or 315 for the 3000 it would be the 125 or 325.
Form109   [May 23, 2010 at 03:32 AM]
Yes i know that...but in chandler texas they Use AE 125's with 100 Watt Lamps!
gailgrove   [May 23, 2010 at 03:39 AM]
Really thats odd Confused
GullWhiz   [May 23, 2010 at 05:27 AM]
I know some GE M-400s and GE M-400A1s with 175 watt MV and someone told me there was a 100 watt MV OV-25 Tudor in AA county
streetlight98   [Feb 26, 2012 at 11:59 PM]
Well they make M-400 with lamps as small as 70 watts. Shocked That must be pretty odd especially the distribution.
joe_347V   [Feb 27, 2012 at 12:21 AM]
I wonder how a 35w HPS B2213 would look like. Shocked
streetlight98   [Feb 27, 2012 at 01:28 AM]
I think most of the light would get lost in the reflector lol. Laughing
Form109   [Apr 25, 2014 at 02:28 AM]
why are durastar's so uncommon? ive never seen one. ever
streetlight98   [Apr 25, 2014 at 03:02 AM]
It seems only a few places use them. I mean, they're pretty hideous looking but I'm sure the utility companies don't care about that. My only guess is that the DuraStars cost more than a 115 or 125 since they're so unpopular. Usually less popular items are more pricey. But since it's all plastic/fiberglass I woudl think it would still be cheaper... That's okay thouhg, I don't want to see more of these lol. Laughing
joe_347V   [Apr 25, 2014 at 04:26 AM]
They're somewhat common in London, ON. They have streets lined with both the small and the large ones. Shocked
streetlight98   [Apr 25, 2014 at 04:44 AM]
They were used strictly in 50W HPS up in the PUD Co-Op (Pascoag Utility District Co-Op) in Burrillville, RI but that's it around here.
