The merc is better.

How Bright is the Buster Bulb....and how does a 65 Watt Fluorescent Lamp opperate on Ballast designed for 175 Watt Mercury Lamps?
Tmcdllr   [Jul 22, 2010 at 08:53 AM]
Here's the answer to the mercury ballast ban, use these! It would be funny to see this lit in a fixture with a loud ballast.
prawnman88   [Jul 23, 2010 at 03:23 AM]
i have one there junk they get dim fast !
Tmcdllr   [Jul 23, 2010 at 04:40 AM]
So when these get dim do they still consume 65 watts?
prawnman88   [Jul 23, 2010 at 02:05 PM]
maybe
Tmcdllr   [Jul 23, 2010 at 02:14 PM]
If so then hmmm, that seems familiar.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jul 23, 2010 at 03:49 PM]
I've heard the same thing about them they get dim prematurely.

@ form109: the busted bulb (LOL) runs off the 250Voc of the merc ballast, and thats why the ratings on the lamp are 250V with 50/60HZ
i have one myself

Love the cleartop!
streetlight98   [Oct 30, 2011 at 01:56 AM]
Hmm, so is it possible to run these on a 240v power supply? That'd be weird see one of these inside a cobrahead. Shocked Laughing
GullWhiz   [Oct 30, 2011 at 02:15 AM]
no no no...bad idea....because the 240 volts is current limited....so you may end up exploding the CFL!
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 07, 2014 at 02:00 AM]
Yeah it would be funny to see one of these in a cobrahead streetlight and/or a fixture with a really loud ballast...
Although if I could find one of these I would use it in my 175w MV yardlight! Seriously!
streetlight98   [Sep 07, 2014 at 03:12 AM]
this is rated for 3600 lumens. A 175W merc is about 7000 lumens. Your getting half the light output for the half the wattage. Where are the savings? Confused Rolling Eyes
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 07, 2014 at 04:14 AM]
In my case it would be perfect but yeah! I've heard of people being impressed by this being so much brighter but that's probably because the MV lamp it replaced in those cases was pretty well dimmed-out.
