Streetlight Repair
This is my work truck and a 400w mercury vapor light I just relamped. It had an SLI China junk that did not last, I put in a Sylvania China, I hope it lasts. There are some USA Philips 400w MVs that are over 10 years old and still going strong, in one of our parks.

Dor123, Because its an Hollywood area, Los Angles where all the TV stars and movie stars are.....So they make the area "fancy looking" we do that in some areas to make things look nice and where more tourists and visitors love to visit and check out....attracts people too!

i think i saw one of these open somwhere...if these are the globes im thinking about they actually have some nice looking reflector optics inside the globes.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Nov 21, 2010 at 09:22 PM]
Mount Washingon PA still has MV globe fixtures on Grant Avenue which overlooks downtown Pittsburgh.

Oh yeah I know these lights they are right off the 10 Freeway.

Form109, the chinese SLI mercs just quit. Rlshieldjr pointed out a light out in the city park and said it was a SLI merc. He also gave me a dead one. Maybe I will try it on a NST.....

@ Form109, I havent examined a dead SLI, but there has been little bits of glass or quartz inside the bulb. Also the freeway sign is lit by 175 or 250w MVs, however they are being converted to induction, as Caltrans (Hwy Dept) is wanting to do away with MV and VHO fluorescent for signs.

is SLI The Brand?....what place sells them?...not that i want one
Silverliner14B   [Nov 24, 2010 at 02:56 PM]
Yes it is a brand, click here to see their website. SLI products are sold mostly through electrical businesses.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Nov 24, 2010 at 08:02 PM]
SLI almost sounds as bad as those newer Phillips mercury vapor lamps, no wonder I see so many outages in my area though the lower wattages ones are fine but not anything that's 400 watts and up.

I replaced another SLI failure the other day on this same street, it only lasted 6 months.
Sailormoon_01_uk   [Jan 15, 2011 at 05:00 PM]
Those street Lights can be seen in the Film Die Hard, outside the Nakatomi Plaza building whic is actually Fox Plazza 2121 Avenue of the Stars Century City, Los Angeles, California.

All the Best

The ballast failed and I put in a 105w CFL, 41K, the first one didnt even last a night, the 2nd was working as of a few days ago. These lights are possibly going to be removed in a freeway widening project.
GullWhiz   [Oct 27, 2012 at 05:17 AM]
Do you remove the failed ballast and rewire straight socket, or do you just bypass the failed ballast or what?
rjluna2   [Oct 27, 2012 at 06:55 PM]
I see you are using the 2002-04 Ford F-Series Super Duty truck Very Happy

Did I get this model year range right? Confused
A_lights   [Oct 28, 2012 at 08:54 AM]
105W CFL? Not too sure that it'll last long at all
rlshieldjr   [Oct 29, 2012 at 05:31 AM]
>@ Jace, the ballast and cap is still inside, I just directly connected the socket to the 120v
>rjluna2, the truck is a F450, 2000, with V10 Triton engine.
rjluna2   [Oct 29, 2012 at 12:13 PM]
Oh, cool Cool The most powerful gasoline engine for the Ford F-series Very Happy

Darn, I couldn't see these indicators len style very well that threw me off with these model years Neutral

Made another repair on this street, not this globe, but another that had a puffed up cap and burnt ballast that shorted to ground. Used another 105w CFL.
