Gumball Comparision
Here's a comparison between the current "Toronto Gumball" and a original gumball. The Toronto Gumball is the MH one on the left and the original gumball is the remote ballasted one on the right.

Here's the night shot:

I also like the looks of the old ones better but the new ones are fine with me!
joe_347V   [Oct 07, 2011 at 02:39 AM]
Yeah, at least they still more or less look like the classic gumball lumes unlike those repro ones. Razz
streetlight98   [Oct 07, 2011 at 02:43 AM]
Well technically this is a repro. Razz
gailgrove   [Oct 07, 2011 at 02:45 AM]
No, they are just new gumballs, they never stopped making them.
streetlight98   [Oct 07, 2011 at 02:46 AM]
Really? Is it confirmed who makes these?
gailgrove   [Oct 07, 2011 at 02:53 AM]
You found they where Coopers, they are made exactly like the old ones unlike repos which are not built the same. Is a new NEMA head a repo? Exactly, no it isn't. Both of these lights are NEMAs.
streetlight98   [Oct 07, 2011 at 02:55 AM]
It's a NEMA, but the optics are a repro. Cooper unfourtunatly discontinued this in 2008. Sad That's why i asked who made these because aren't these still installed there?
gailgrove   [Oct 07, 2011 at 02:57 AM]
They still make them, they are likely now an off catalog item like the OV-15 and OV-25. Toronto is likely the only place the that orders them.
streetlight98   [Oct 07, 2011 at 03:00 AM]
I contacted Cooper earlier on the year and I got the response "We are sorry. Our "gumball" light has been discontinued since 2008 with no current replacment." These must be specially made for Torronto.
gailgrove   [Oct 07, 2011 at 03:01 AM]
I'm pretty sure they are, did you ever ask Cooper about the OV-15/25?
streetlight98   [Oct 07, 2011 at 03:05 AM]
I did. They said "The OV15 and OV25 are still produced today. For further information, please contact our Customer First Center in Peachtree, Georgia." I never called the Customer Service place though.

GullWhiz   [Nov 26, 2011 at 07:50 PM]
Now Joe.....relamp that old fixture, and rewire and do whatever it needs to get it working again!
gailgrove   [Nov 26, 2011 at 07:53 PM]
I'll do it if you give me a bucket truck!
joe_347V   [Nov 26, 2011 at 07:59 PM]
I bet you that old gumball still works and was probably switched off when the bus terminal that it lights was abandoned.
joe_347V   [Mar 07, 2018 at 09:19 AM]
update: these are mostly gone now, the entire site has been demolished and is now a giant pit for a future underground LRT station.
Model25FanForever   [Mar 08, 2018 at 12:04 AM]
I see the B2255 at yonge street was taken down too, looked really cool on that pole.
joe_347V   [Mar 08, 2018 at 04:57 AM]
I guess you're talking about this? Yeah those were pretty cool poles. I always found in interesting that section of Yonge had them.

Bloor and Danforth used to have similar poles but aluminium versions. I think they mostly got replaced in 2005 but a few stayed for a couple more years. Anyway I think they're one of the first HPS installs in Toronto, they were installed around 1967.

Shocked
Model25FanForever   [Mar 08, 2018 at 01:09 PM]
Too bad they replaced them all, they looked cool, I remember when I was younger seeing all those aluminum poles with GE's. There are still a few of those same poles by Jane st too, only 3 left now. Those poles would probably be steel im guessing because of the brown discoloration

There were also some over the Humber river on Dundas too! They came down in 2008. The GE m250r2 B2255, 125, and 25 im guessing were all spot replacements over the years.
