Here's a pic of the insides of two commonly used types of PCs here, the one on the left is a traditional instant response one that's switches the light using a electromagnetic relay that is held open when it detects light. The one on the right is a newer style electronic control that has a built in time delay and I think uses less energy when the contact is open. I was going to include a pic of a thermal PC too but I kinda misplaced my Caster PC...

Interesting...The Designer Edge....never seen a PC of that brand and it has cool cursive design too!
I have opened lots of PCs....I have noticed Fisher Pierce PCs from 1993 are slightly different from 1995 ones....
@ Jace I also have a Regent one that looks quite similar to the Designer's edge one.
