Re-Store find! New Abolite 175 watt MH highbay.
|
I actually saw this when I got that post top, I debated whether I should get this or the post-top, but I got the post-top instead. Then I came back today and got this! It was 10 dollars, very nice! The lamp that came with it didn't work well, so I used a lamp I already had.
I hung this in the garage (where it is in the pic) and it is going to be used to light inside the garage.
Since it is a temporary setup (since I am moving out soon) I didn't really set it up to code. xD The old incandescent socket is still there, I put a hook (in a stud) on the ceiling and hooked the highbay on that since the Highbay had a hook on it. (How convenient. xD) and put a plug on the fixture and plugged it in the socket (and used a medium base socket-plug thing) So you can turn this on the switch. Lights up nicely!

Many times I see high-bays that are simply plugged into outlets (usually twist-lock) on the ceiling. The only issue I'd see with your installation is that such adapters provide no ground.
Replacing the holder with one of these or with this and a outlet will ground it.
I am glad I found this though! I bought it just because I wanted it, then when I got home I had the idea of hanging it up in the garage. xD

Grocery stores here usually have florescent fixtures, I have not seen one yet with MH high bays.
I notice a lot of stores around here like Home depots, Lowes, Micheal's, all replaced their MH high bays with florescent fixtures. I wonder why..
Also, the local HD originally had MH high bays, but replaced them with fluorescents a few years ago. Those seem to not get taken out by forklifts nearly as often.
But still a nice little light. I like it.
