My Tapered Elliptical arm. 10 feet I think. Pretty big. Not all that heavy though. xD I am not sure why this fell off the pole. Or did it fall off the pole? I can't wait to put this up tomorrow and mount a light on it. How does it look? Anyone know the brand? I could guess GE but there isn't any brand name on it... Keywords: Gear

Aluminum I assume? Don't you have a tape measure that you could measure it with? I'm not sure but this looks more like a 8 footer to me. I know these are very light, I have held a 8 foot and a 10 foot arm and both weighed barley more than a few pounds.

I hung this up outside for a bit, I wish I Had better screws that could support the weight! D:

And I have one but it's not on me at the moment. I will measure it later.

And this is pretty light, it makes installing the arm much easier.

When it get's warmer outside I will mount a light on it and take a pic.

I would suggest lag screws, they are what are really used on wooden poles along with a through bolt.

Yes. DO NOT hang this up with any lights on it until you get a thru-bolt. Without the thru-bolt, you'll loose another light. Shocked

I used a lag screw, it was a long screw.

The first screw was too small so the screw popped right out. But I don't plan to do much with this yet anyway.

A large lag screw would hold it up, temporarily anyways. However a through bolt would be the only way to
be sure it wouldn't fall is a through bolt, you wouldn't neede to remove it either, just install it the first time and tighten it when needed.

For a through bolt I would have to ask IREA about it. I wouldn't know how to install it and I bet they would be the only ones who have the tools.

It is pretty simple, you drill a hole through the pole with a large bit and put the bolt in, sometimes it requires a bit of hammering to get it in.

Make sure you use the proper sized washers with your through bolt, or the bolt will start digging into the wood and cause the arm to sag.

A thru-bolt is basically a huge screw with a nut on the end. You drill a hole through the pole and install the bolt. If you have a pair of binoculars, look closely at how the thru-bolts are attatched in your area.

Yeah but the other end will start to dig in to the wood if you don't use a big enough washer. Wink

Here big square washers are used, the arm side shouldnt have a washer so you can lift it on and off of the bolt head easily.

The big square ones are used here too. Some of the truss arms here have two thru-bolts. Shocked

Sometimes the utility will get lazy and only use one bolt on a arm and instead will strap the bottom on using band-it. Shocked

I've seen the before as well, it doesn't really bother me but this does, it is an arm held on by nothing but band-it. Shocked

On RIDOT's aluminum truss poles, the arms are attatched to the pole with these shown below:

I've seen those too, they're common in older MTO installs.

Yeah I've seen those used with the MTO truss arms as well.
