Westinghouse H38-4JA/W mercury vapour lamp.
This is probably the greatest lamp I've bought in the last months! I came across a PDF document on Google that listed a variety of items for sale by "ALC audio". This nice NOS lamp happened to be in the list! It was 21$ + 9$ shipping, definitely an excellent deal!

As a daylight fluorescent nut, I simply LOVE the colour of that lamp! It is white with a touch of blue, goes very well with daylight fluorescents!

And the best thing, this lamp came with the original sleeve! I never expected to get the lamp with its sleeve. Smells old, but it's in pretty good shape!

Aren't these the best ever lamps? I love these!
streetlight98   [Apr 13, 2012 at 02:35 AM]
Sweet! I'd love to get my hands on either a 100 or 175 watt lifeguard lamp one day.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 13, 2012 at 04:06 AM]
Same here, but 175w unless I get a 100w fixture. Right now all I have is a 1993 Electripak 175w yardblaster.

NICE find! Same year as my Ken-Rad H38-4JA/W!

Where do you keep on getting these lamps? xD

Nice lamp though, looks very rare. And old. Is it in brand new condition or is it used?

I really like the etch on that one! Ian, it's NOS. I've never seen a Lifeguard sleeve like that before either! Shocked
joe_347V   [Apr 13, 2012 at 05:22 PM]
Shocked Wow great find! I have some vintage mercs but no Lifeguards. Sad
TiCoune66   [Apr 13, 2012 at 08:58 PM]
Yep, keep looking on eBay Ian! One thing I do... Say you look for 100W mercury lamps, do several researches with different terms, like "100W mercury", then "H38JA", "H38 mercury", "H38 bulb", etc etc. One day you'll come across something interesting!

I have one more lot of NOS mercury lamps left that didn't arrive. It's a pair of NOS Westinghouse H33GL-400/DX from 1975 or 1976! Their sleeves are in absolutely perfect condition!

Those are SWEET!

That 100w /W cleartop is the holy grail! Especially with that style of package, which I've never seen before. The high-output white colour is my favourite of all the mercury phosphor types. And cleartop BT-25's always look boss.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 15, 2012 at 03:17 AM]
Yeah, does the white color produce more visible light that a clear or /DX. /C. or clear bulb? I think cleartop 175w would be even cooler personally
lite_lover   [Apr 15, 2012 at 08:03 PM]
Great finds Vince!! Cool
TiCoune66   [Apr 16, 2012 at 12:28 AM]
Thanks guys! ^__^

GEsoftwhite100watts: The /W phosphor (or Hi-Output White) has the same efficiency as Deluxe White (/DX). But the colour is more of a bluish-white, with a colour rendering being somewhere between /C and clear lamps.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 16, 2012 at 02:34 AM]
Interesting, Vince. Can you do a color comparison pic between /DX, /C, and/W please? I am vaguely familiar with /DX, (have seen them in use "in the wild", (slightly pinkish light), but have never seen a /C or/W lit up. Thanks!
CrazyLamp   [Apr 16, 2012 at 02:42 AM]
Nice lamp, cant get any better than this
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 16, 2012 at 02:49 AM]
Vince, have you lit this particular specimen up yet?
TiCoune66   [Apr 16, 2012 at 03:24 AM]
I did, beautiful when lit! I don't have any 100W /C lamp yet, but I can compare /DX and /W at the same time!
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 16, 2012 at 03:27 AM]
Please do! Would a 175w /C work?
CrazyLamp   [Apr 16, 2012 at 04:00 AM]
it would work but it will be under drivin at least to test fire. I got a dud C lamp on ebay. but i got a refund.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 16, 2012 at 04:06 AM]
I mean 2 100w lamps and 1 175w lamp on their proper ballasts.
