HPS is not crap. It's easier to see under than LPS and much cheaper to use because the fixtures and lamps are far cheaper. The money you save on the electric bill is canceled out by the high cost of the fixtures and lamps. LPS lamps don't last as long (18000 hours vs 24000 hours) and they have limited applications (they must be run horizontally or you'll destroy the lamp except for 18-55W lamps).
HPS isn't the best lamp source but it's certainly not crap. It provides lots of light for a low fixture and lamp cost and low energy cost. The quality of the light isn't great but it's surely better quality than LPS. CMH is better than both HPS and LPS. The raw lumens are less but because the CRI is so high, they appear just as bright if not brighter than LPS or HPS because the human eye can use all the light. because the human eye is more sensitive to light at the green-blue end of the spectrum, light at the red end of the spectrum is less useful to the human eye.
But yeah I'll agree to disagree. I like all light sources and dont want to see any go away though it's too late for MV and incandecent.
You are right HPS has a crap color.
I can only have LPS at my dads home because of the owls and the wet lands The MH Wide-lites can stay because they are for emergency only.
Mike You should be happy all I like now is LPS because what do you think will happen with some of the old fixtures I hate?
