I know where this light is its next to I-10 in eastern Los Angeles County. Somewhere in the West Covina area.

This is where Lark Ellen crosses under the 10 fwy. On the western corner across the street is an old Thunderbolt siren no longer used.
Form109   [Aug 26, 2010 at 11:55 PM]
rlshieldjr do you know if that Thunderbolt is a 1000,1000T or 1003 Model?
rlshieldjr   [Aug 27, 2010 at 05:04 AM]
I am not familiar with sirens, other than what I have learned from those more in the know. I will post a pic, if I can find a light near it and on Flickr.

was this already running or was it switched on for the pic? Smile

@ Mike, The MV was turned on for testing and the amber running light was on during a pump run. These stations are inspected regularly to find problems to prevent flooding of underpasses. They also have a 480V input jack to plug in a generator in case of a power outage.
streetlight98   [May 25, 2013 at 11:34 PM]
flooding? waht are these pumps for? Also is that some ash on the pole where the bracket bolts on? It's a little black...
rlshieldjr   [Jun 10, 2013 at 01:13 AM]
@Mike - The pump station pumps rain water from an freeway underpass that goes below the normal drainage level. There is a storage tank under the street to hold sudden surges of water so it can be pumped out. We make regular inspections to prevent failures in the event of a rain storm. The ash look is probably just dust or Diesel soot and tire rubber dust that has accumulated over the years.

ahh cool. so the pump is to preveny flash flooding on the roadway?
rlshieldjr   [May 18, 2019 at 10:48 PM]
They are wanting to LEDize the pump station lights, most likely with LED paddles. I'm going to try to save it and replace with a more modern fixture.
ZarlogH46   [May 26, 2019 at 04:23 AM]
Other than instant on and no restrike time I really can't seen any advantages of upgrading to LED.
Mike   [May 27, 2019 at 04:12 PM]
Same. If it's not used nightly the energy savings will be minimal and so will the return on investment.
rlshieldjr   [Jun 10, 2019 at 04:13 AM]
That is the reason, instant start and restart
