Trying to find out why my monthly electric bill consistantly cites nearly 1500 kwh of usage, despite every effort to minimize consumption. The monthly average for homes in this area is around 750. I wonder if it's the meter, after all it's pretty old.
You don't have a "smart" meter yet? Do you know if there are any plans to install them? If you think the meter is faulty I think they will change them.
Probably not. Those mechanical meters are very reliable. They do break, but it's very unlikely.
Interestingly here in Québec, the ID number takes the form of a plate attached to the front with tabs around the two openings in the lower part. GE meters have had the ID number custom-printed directly on the plate by Hydro-Québec. Here's how it actually looks.
Smart meters aren't available here, yet (even though there is a fee for it on the monthly bill ). ComEd is currently doing a testing program in a small area. Hopefully they'll be available soon.
