Yeah, I heard clear mercs were quite common here back in the day. I heard the freeways were lit with B2213s that used 700w clear mercs.

The incandescent days. Whitish green glow to yellow. I don't see any Incandescent B2255's anymore. Only see Incandescent shoebox's now. Sylvania of course.
streetlight98   [Jul 09, 2013 at 12:44 AM]
I highly doubt they made incandescent B2255s or shoeboxes. incandescent lamps are the lamps you use in your house. are you sure you don't mean MV or HPS? Confused The light above is mercury vapor, not incandescent. Wink

I guess he means HPS since some people confuse the two.

BTW Toronto is under a huge rainstorm today, power outages, too still trying to get home Crying or Very sad ...subway got flooded Shocked
streetlight98   [Jul 09, 2013 at 01:34 AM]
oh wow. Here's the westher for my area:

It seems like whatever you have up there isn't really coming to RI. Hope you stay safe! I kinda wish we get some severe weather this summer. I like lots of thunder storms. It's better than regular rain.
Hanging Light   [Jul 09, 2013 at 02:34 AM]
Yea im flooded out too. The creeks by me are high. Lots of flooding . Our Power is still on

I love this photo.

Yea I mean't Mercury vapour. Yea I have trouble differentiating the two. Laughing

Ahh, I made it home now Very Happy It seems the power outages are mostly limited to Toronto and Mississauga as my house still has power. I'll be posting some pics I took getting home in the forum later.
Hanging Light   [Jul 09, 2013 at 03:00 AM]
Yea its easing up now. I still have a pond out back though. Good to know you make it home Very Happy The R47 outside my house now doesn't work. It was one with a wire sticking out of it near the bottom. This rain brought the end to that pole.
streetlight98   [Jul 09, 2013 at 03:32 AM]
Ahh i suppose you'll be getting either an AEL 115, Cooper OVZ, or Cooper OVH on that pole soon enough. Sad If someone had reported the exposed wire the R47 might have been saved but if the water shorted it out it'll be replaced unless they decide to replace the ballast inside. From what i understand the contractors are all different and some repair while others replace? Here the electric company, NGrid, services the street lights and they will replace a lamp, photocell, and the refractor and door if they happen to have them on the truck with them. other than that the light gets replaced. There was a 113 on the road to the summer camp i go to that has had a missing door for a while and i had reported it and they replaced the door. They must have happened to have a spare door on hand. So the fixture looks as if it had never lost its door, though there's a little bit of tape around the hinge area. that must have been what broke to make the old door fall off... i was glad they didn't replace the fixture. They even used the correct refractor too and not a GE or FP lens.

On my road most likely a 115 or an OVX. That R47 is toast to say the least. There are tons of R47's here though. Usually a shorted out a pole gets replaced within 6 weeks with a new pole and usually OVX or 115 rarely have I seen new OVZ or 125's. Only once have I ever seen them replace a pole with a Westinghouse OV-15 here. R37's get reported here a lot faster than anything. A R37 is out for one night and a week later its gone. Somebody must not like powerlites around here. Razz

It could be the PC or the ignitor though. If it's the PC they might put a new one in but normally if it need more than a new lamp and PC they'll scrap the light and slap a 115 or OVX on.
Hanging Light   [Jul 09, 2013 at 11:20 PM]
Thats what normally happens here. The ignitors on the OVX's are wacky sometimes.

We actually had a wall cloud form over my house this past Sunday, thank goodness it never touched down.

It's sad here at work, we are removing all mercury from our system now. Any exhausting fixtures are being changed out to HPS and even LED now.
streetlight98   [Jul 10, 2013 at 12:32 AM]
Aww man. What kind of fixtures do you have in your system that are mercs? Maybe you couls score yourself a few more lights? Cool
Hanging Light   [Jul 10, 2013 at 12:41 AM]
Where are they being removed?
streetlight98   [Jul 10, 2013 at 01:10 AM]
Tony (antstar85) lives in western Massachusetts. (I live in Rhode Island BTW)
Antstar85   [Jul 10, 2013 at 01:45 AM]
The mercs mostly consist of M-250R/R1, OV-15, unistyle 175, and even OV-12. I'm keeping an eye out for the OV-12s. I really like that fixture added to the collection.
joe_347V   [Jul 10, 2013 at 06:06 PM]
Oh, too bad they're removing mercs. I hope you can score some of the lights especially the OV-12. Cool
joe_347V   [Dec 22, 2014 at 07:55 AM]
Forgot to update, but the last time I saw these they were now MH.
streetlight98   [Dec 22, 2014 at 11:32 AM]
Ah sad to hear it's not MV but at least they kept the fixture. Cool
