Funny about the stickers too, Niall got a Brampton OVX with a 400w HPS tag but it turned out it was only a 250w fixture. I guess they put a 40 sticker on to pass inspection.
yeah, that one Nial got must have been from Queen street work that reused a wide variety of small fixtures for temporary lighting. They stuck 400W stickers on 250W R37's, R47's, OV-15's, and OVx's, maybe even an AEL 115, whic I have never in my life seen being 400W. Could they just put a 400W bulb in these and get higher light output?
Hmm the 115 is only made in 400W HPS in 208V and 240V with a reactor ballast so that means they don't comply with the Ontario electric code. Since 208 and 240 are phase-to-phase aren't they?
I saw Brampton's first FCO AEL 115 a few weeks back, only one on the Hillside Drive project that is OVF's. Seems like this oddball was added because the portion of road was deficient. I thought Guest St was all FCO 115's at first, but either I was crazy or they changed them to OVH's...
According to 2012 streetview Guest Street in Bramton was 150W OVHs. when did you think you saw 115s? I wish they installed AELs here. The last ones they used were Thomas & Betts 113s in the early 90s.
Well, I thought they were FCO 115's like the week they were put up. It has happened more than once before, new installs have been replaced for some reason like being off spec.
was the wattage kept the same? if so what a waste! I don't see how the fixture brand/model makes a difference lol. They'd have a heart attack here with all the mismatching that goes on here. There are poles that were installed with two different lights on them (it was common back in the 60s to see OV-25s and M-400s used on the same pole with 2-light poles since it was just random. In the 90s 113s and M-250R2s were used interchangebly too)
Now though it's all GEs and I'd actually like to see some variety. Before HPS, i was told there was a huge variety of lights here. Even after HPS took over there's a nice variety (for lower wattage HPS M-250R2s (50 and 100W), 113s (50 and occassionally 100W), and OVCs (50W) were used and for higher wattages, M-250R2s (250W), 125s (250 and 400W), model 25s (250W and 400W), M-400R2s (400W). On the freeways (and only on the freeways) the Cooper OVS and OVM were used for 250W and 400W HPS respectively.
So actually quite a variety was used, but now 20 years later, many of these lights are failing in larger numbers and M-250R2s are used for 50-250W and new style M-400s are used for 400W (though for 250W HPS cobraheads they've started using Cooper OVZs and they now use cooper flood lights too but 50 and 100W lights are M-250R2s and 400W lights are still M-400s). If they start using 400W Coopers they'll be using OVXs.
Theres quite a variety here but construction is taking out the biggest places of variety. There are 5 lights that I know we used a lot on the main roads back in the 80's and 90's they were OV-15's (both Cooper and Westinghouse), Model 25's, OV-25, GE M400's, B2255, R47 and R37. Then almost half way through 2k10 OVX's were literally wrecking the lights because they were replacing a lot of lights! Because of a lot of construction the last few years and into the next few years its going to kill off the rest of the Model 25's B2255's and Unidors. B2255's are disappearing like crazy around here now. @m@ you said about that B2255 on main street thats now gone. ( I saw it because i wanted to see what they did there.) Dixie widening threatens the majority of the Model 25's (which is only about 6 because they are extremely rare now)M400A's, we are down to the very last one.

Yeah they are phase to phase. We are potentially going to be learning that in my HVAC split class this year since its split electricity and HVRAC
