Who are you calling "short"?
This is a full 250 watt HPS cobra lighting a bike/pedestrian path. I think it's there to discourage drug activity, but it's low enough one could almost climb up and take out the lamp. There aren't any other lights on the path in this area.

That's an American Electric Lighting 125. Wow that is short! Nice that they used a medium sized cobrahead for 250W HPS and not a small sized light.

The arm length compared to the pole height is what gets me Laughing

yeah it'd make sense to use a shorter arm since the pole is shorter and the bike path isn't much wider than the length of the arm lol.

I once saw a 400w HPS FCO GE cobrhead lighting a small parking area in front of a building...right next to the street. It was on probably a 6' arm too and maybe 12' off the ground! Overkill anyone? Oh and the same place had a NEMA head with one of those weird 120v Intermatic twist-lock photocells with a 400 WATT METAL HALIDE LAMP sticking out of the refractor! I saw it lit (It was dayburning) and I can't say how it compared to a 175w or 100w MV though in broad daylight...but it was about as greenish.

are you sure it was a 400W MH lamp? 400W MH wouldn't strike on a low wattage ballast that you'd find in a NEMA or yadblaster as far as i know...

It apparently will...

hmm i cant even get my 400W MH to light on 400W MV lol. 400W MV will light up on a 175W MV ballast though it wont warm up all the way.

Yeah that's what happened here...I've also seen pics on LG of 1000w lamps in yardblasters that worked and didn't even cycle or anything! Laughing

I've seen similar setups near airports too.
