CGE signal for sale
I went to a shop today and they were selling a CGE 12-8-8 Aluminum signal. It has the original hanger too. Just no backplate. Is $450 normal for a traffic signal? I felt that may have been too much. Even though its a pawn shop. Need opinions on this one.

that's about the cost of a new signal. i think it's way too much. My traffic signal was a fairly modern 12-12-12 and it was 30 bucks.

Ok good, I thought it was a rip off, man I want one of those soooo bad Sad

It's in pretty nice shape (nicer than mine lol) but 450 bucks is WAY too much for a 12-8-8 CGE. I'd say 100-200 is the average price of these.

If you're willing to drive to Barrie. Here's one for a 100 bucks. CGEs are quite common on Kiijii the 8-8-8s and 12-8-8s show up there often.

I can't seem to find loose backplates or hangers for sale though.

@Mike, Oh wow 30 bucks for a signal, that's like the price of a LED module here. The majority of my signals were in the 100-200 range which is the going price for a signal in the GTA. The CGE ped and the Econolite poly 12-8-8 were cheaper than that though.

Yeah i think the place we got it (some auto place out in Foster, RI) just charged scrap value. It didn't have any visors but they wired the lamps to a lamp cord (so all three came on at once) and included 40W fan light bulbs. When i get my own house I'll get a set of visors and some brackets if I can get them cheap and mount my signal in my shop or something. Don't want it out in the elements since the sequencer isn't designed for that, though I could probably stick it in a vaportight box and remote-sequence the signal lol.

Ahh even though it didn't have visors 30 bucks was a steal for a metal signal lol. For cheap brackets I believe 1-1/2" iron plumbing pipe will work too. The real brackets cost around 40 bucks a set on eBay. Confused

As for the sequencer I guess you can either remote mount it and wire it to the signal with some 14-5 wire or you can also pot it in epoxy like a ballast. Razz

Some of these offers from people are really close to me, lol. $450 to me sounded insane and crazy for a signal. I wish we could get them for as low as 30$
basilicon89   [Jul 20, 2014 at 11:07 PM]
Just to echo.... $450 is definitely way out of the ball park price for a basic 12-8-8 head. I've spent some serious cash on some of my rarer pieces...$500 on a prototype, $300 and $800 on four ways, $400 on an Intelight programmable head for example.... but $450 on a basic 12-8-8 you can find on ebay... no way!! A good price ranges from as low as $25 or 30 to maybe $120...MAX!

I am late to the party, but $450.00 is a rather ludicrous offer. Unless that traffic signal is old and rare, then maybe I would consider the price as fair. Unfortunately, a lot of generic signals today are often priced too high. I believe people that sell those in particular should at least do research regarding value. I would sell that traffic signal for well below $200.00.
streetlight98   [Aug 15, 2014 at 03:05 PM]
The signal is maybe worth 40 bucks in scrap value if even. That's a fair selling price. Razz

Yeah I was there again recently and a guy asked for the price of the siganl and then said "this place is nuts with the insane prices" Laughing They have an Econolite signal too there except its not for sale.
streetlight98   [Aug 15, 2014 at 08:27 PM]
Yeah I hate these stupid thriftshop places that don't anything about what they're selling and instead just assume whatever they have for sale is worth big bucks. Rolling Eyes That's why I like my local ReSore, stuff if very low-priced. Other ReStores it seems, are more expensive though.
joe_347V   [Aug 16, 2014 at 01:51 AM]
Yeah, I noticed that too lol. I'm gonna bet it'll stay at 450 until they realize months later that no one bought it. Rolling Eyes

There's a fairly cheap CGE 8-8-8 on eBay right now.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 16, 2014 at 02:37 AM]
Do any of the GTA members know of any restores in around Brampton?
joe_347V   [Aug 16, 2014 at 03:37 AM]
Yeah, the Brampton Restore is a couple of blocks north of Rutherford and Steeles.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 16, 2014 at 12:52 PM]
Thanks! Im going to probably check it out Cool
joe_347V   [Aug 17, 2014 at 03:31 AM]
Cool, here's the other nearby Restores in the GTA. There's also the Missisauga one which is not listed for some reason.

"There's a fairly cheap CGE 8-8-8 on eBay right now."

I'm a little late to the party on this one...and its over anyway but this seller shill bids on their auctions. user name s***s (2) shows up in almost all their auctions. Pretty obvious it is the seller racking up their price using a different user name. Steer clear of this guy should he post more stuff FYI....
Model25FanForever   [Aug 21, 2015 at 12:49 AM]
This is still at the shop. There are 2 Econolite signals there too. 1 without the visors and one with. Same price still too.
joe_347V   [Aug 22, 2015 at 06:26 AM]
Hmm, not surprised it's still there if it's selling for the same price lol. I wonder if the owner will consider selling it for a lower price if you tried haggling with him lol. They are a lot cheaper on Kiijii though, CGEs usually sell for 100-180 there.

I wonder what model are the Econolites.
