Found a pair of these 1950s louvered preheaters in this used video game shop in downtown Hamilton. The pictured fixture has no lamps but it's mate deeper in the store is still holding on with a single F40 lamp. Unfortunately it was right over the cashier so I couldn't discreetly snap a pic of it.
Nice! Too bad they're not in service but at least they appear to be original! I honestly prefer louvered fixtures in RS but this is still really cool as preheat too!
VERY cool!! That's a Day-Brite fixture. I actually just recently acquired a very similar one (identical to that one, except it has an off-white finish instead of the silver/gray in your pic). I'm guessing that the one in your pic is an early one, given that it's preheat...mine's from 1962 and it's rapid-start.
Ahh thanks for the info. I usually see the later models that are designed for continuous row mounting more but I think these are more neat looking. The later ones also tend to have metal sides instead of the translucent plastic panels. A lot of mid century institutional buildings here still have these fixtures, converted into T8 though.
