Day-Brite Louvered Fluorescent Fixture
|
I couldn't believe my eyes when I "unearthed" this at my favorite junk/salvage warehouse. I've been looking for a 50s/60s louvered fluorescent fixture like this for YEARS!! I rarely see lights like this in the secondhand market - seems like the only way to get this type of light is by attempting to acquire/buy one off building owners who are remodeling or demolishing. So I guess I got this light the easy way!
Anyway - it's a 1962 Day-Brite fluorescent fixture, 4-foot. It has two older GE cool white F40T12 tubes, and it sports its MASSIVE original rapid-start ballast. I bought the fixture non-working (I tested it at the store and tripped the breaker... :P ), but after a bit of rewiring and a thorough cleaning, this thing is working and looking great!

I wonder if the ballast is the same size as the original preheat tulamp brick ballasts. Any pics of the ballast?
joe_347V - Thanks! And yep, I'd love to get a couple of those pendant downrods to mount it some day. As far as the ballast, I wouldn't doubt it...I think it measured about 2.5"x7"x1.5" or so? It seemed HUGE. I'll try to get a clear pic of it soon.
