I've got two of them. The fixture back is made from a kind of grey thermoset. It's well ventilated - it's designed for incandescent lamps up to 75W (IIRC). (The bakelite socket is the main limiting factor here.)
You can also use long stick CFLs inside as the fixture is long enough. The diffuser is made from a thick (and heavy) glass, held by the red rim, made from nylon. Very easy to replace the lamp, you just need to unlock one of screws as the rim is soft.
