They seem to work just as well...may even be slightly brighter than the newer models
I did notice that it does not say "No PCBs" anywhere ... I'm guessing that means these may contain that stuff In reality I probably should not even be using these ballasts.
PCBs were made until July 1st '77 but manufacturers were allowed to use up existing stock until the end of '78. I have a '77 F96T12 ballast with PCBs, also my OV-15 is from the same year and the capacitor is an older York kind made for Westinghouse.
If it starts to leak a sticky tar then you will need to wear polypropylene gloves ( not rubber unless you wear surgical gloves and regular rubber gloves over those that you discard as well) to clean up the mess. The whole lot then should go for incineration at a Hazardoud material incinerator.
If you just keep them in a cardboard box wrapped in a paper inner and a plastic outer bag then there is no issue.
well the tar isn't the PCBS only the oily clear liquid, but yes I could get mixed, this is only a problem at ballast EOL, make sure if it leaks you remove it with rubber gloves that's all
If left alone it should be fine even if it's leaked a little bit of tar as long as it isn't sticky...in essence keep these and you won't die from having them in your house...
These are identical to mine with the exception of the "coils" and mine is rated for energy-saver lamps...
