I'll see how to make those kind of connections after Xmas at school. Those bare wires seem to be the support wires, which also are the neutrals.

Actually the the very high lines on the top of the poles are all bares they are all hots......(some of them have weatherproof coating but does not work as a insulators though....) Creepy in some ways huh?

Funny thing is that that copper oxide and copper chloride coating can act as a very good insulator, allowing the lines to twist and touch without tripping.

The bare aluminum wire is a neutral plus it acts as the messenger or " support " to hold the buss up in the air from pole to pole.

there is one support near me where the Golf area is at the intersection of Route 29 and Old Columbia road that completely snapped and broke....but the pole has been standing the whole time...and there is a VERY old LARGE black transformer up there...I do not know the best way to report it though.......

I love when they renew a pole and the one connection the cant get right is the SL twin wire! Very Happy It's not like were lacking work!

The 12-gauge wire sure looks tiny here.
