I painted it black because thats time period correct. The signal had about 5 coats of yellow paint on it over the course of its 60+ year service life. When this signal came out of the factory in 1948 it was painted either black or green. I chose black.
Thank you! This was definitely quite the project when I did it and its definitely not my best. This signal was in rough shape. My four way tops all the other signal restorations I've done
After I restore a 1970's fluorescent fixture I'll try to begin my Peek traffic signal restoration. How many cans of paint do you think ill need to paint every peice of the painted part of the signal over? I don't have visors....
Yeah. I'm not sure where I'd get them either. i want cutaway visors if i have a choice. I'd take tunnel too though if i came accross them. I'm not in any hurry to restore it though.
I'm not paying $60 for them thats for sure! I've considered checking out the RIDOT yards since it's about 10 minutes by car from my house. I think you need an "appointment" to go there though. I'm sure they'd have some old signal visors and/or streetlight parts. you can see the signal and cobrahead pile on streetview. I believe I've shown you before...
I prefer cutaway too though, most of the signals in my area use cutaway anyways.
