Here's a Philips 250w mercury lamp that's labeled as a /N lamp but I I fired it up and it looks quite similar to my /DX merc, except that the /N appears to have a very slightly warmer colour temperature. If I had a spectroscope I could test the spectrum but I don't. Anyone have any ideas on this odd lamp?
Another thing I found interesting was the the wrapper for this lamp (pictured below) still listed the /C phosphor on it.
It is possible that during the least years the /N mercury lamps were only relabeled /DXs. Possibly the same thing for the /C as well, or maybe they did make /Cs as late as '91!
I thought the N Lamps were Neutral White, with a Pastel Yellow Coating, the DX Lamps are Deluxe White, (Gives a bit more Lumens) and C lamps are Coated Lamps, Both are White Coated,
However Looking at my Collection I have the Following 175 watt Mercury Lamps
Sylvania H39-KB175 lamp which has a Clear Bulb see HERE,
Sylvania H39-KC175/DX lamp which has a White Coating see HERE,
Sylvania H39-KC175/N lamp which has a Pastel Yellow Coating see HERE
In my Collection of Mercury Lamps, None are Marked with /C (must keep a eye out for one)
Nice lamp! The GE WDXs (same as the /N) came in the color you described, like a /DX except slightly warmer. The original Westinghouse Styletone /Ns were very warm, but its possible quality had gone down with Philips in the early 90s. Sylvania Warmtone /Ns were very nice too. I think Philips stopped making /Ns in '93. I think the /C lamps stopped production in '86 or '87, Philips just hasn't updated the packaging.
/DX phosphor has a slightly higher CRI (50) than /C (45). Sylvania /N lamps are even better with 56. I'm not sure if /N phosphor is the highest though LOL.

It's strange it has the same warning as MH lamps do , about arc-tube explosions!
