the OVX's seem to have Problems with the Higher wattage lamps....ive heard the cycling can start because coopers reflector design isnt quite right..also the fixture itself is just an aluminimum shelll...the ballast and lamp they used could be the failing factors here.
well i guess ill agree the Cram nature of the OVX does give less room for heat to build up...the Mercury Units seem to be less problematic than the Sodium ones...overall if i were a utility i would keep the OVX's with Low wattage lamps at or Under 175 or 150,id use the OVF/OVY/OVD or even the OV-25...those would be higher up on my List...they do look better too.
If AE brings back the 25, for their FCO they should at LEAST have a flat FCO! not a big HUGE angle which isn't a good FCO. The RLG's RLC is the exact same as the RLG. BUT nice and flat instead of the big angle.
OVZs and OVH also have cycling problems too. OVZ was actually the first for me to notice cycling way back in the 90s.....but we have a lot of OVX in my area that actually are OVER 20 years old!
if you mean that Lip cast into the bottom of the Fixture then i happen to like that...since the optics are flat glass..even with that angle it would still be a good true FCO.
In my area they installed a OVX at around mid '07 which started cycling around 6 months later. They later replaced the fixture with a brand new silver GE M-400R3 at around Nov-Dec '09.
