I guess I am not the only one who calls it a Shoe! Sometimes I call it Green shoes, or Irish shoes.....I actually saw them in New Jersey 2 weeks ago yes I have a few pics..wasn't easy since I wasn't the driver and my dad wouldn't stop places...but I got some good ones....Official name is US Lighting Tech Jersey Series
I will post the pics soon! Stay tuned! I also have pics of nights shots that I never posted...from last year...there's a nice scene of one Jersey Shoe, one clear mercury vapor and a HPS which made a GREAT comparison picture!
No not from what I've seen...they did good job! They don't need a complex reflector because they work more like a fluorescent light, and fluorecent light fixture have simple reflectors. Those have larger light source than the HID, so simpler reflector can be used. I have seen lit ones in NJ, I must admit I was impressed.....bright and lights same way as a COATED mv believe it or not! It's just the camera that makes it seem off LOL....
Yeah...those fixtures are Awesome....PSE&G the electrical company mostly in central new Jersey is one of those that wanted to replace mercury vapor streetlights WITHOUT having to deal with HPS....or the negatives of LEDs and dimming of those.....and those are the ones!!! They from what I've seen (plus here in MD) are pretty rather reliable!!! In the tunnel near me....one tunnel has over hundreds of those fixtures...only 2 or 3 went out...while rest remains lit!
They look like an extremely bright 4100K fluorescent light....but brighter.....and you can see a slight very very slight green hue around you.....kinda like a coated MV.....but better color quality....a lor better! They looked NICE! See the link above...

Those streetlights (only the green painted ones) are called The Jersey Series Roadway Lighting...

Also those are the SAME fixtures here in this pic I took pic of! See how nice they look!
Seems to look better at night than LED streetlights but I can't say for sure since I haven't really seen one before.
