Outdoor PL Fluorescent Fixture Idea
This is an Outdoor PL Fixture im currently in the process of creating...the Parts i already have are shown above, and a diagram of all the parts when complete below.

the Photocell is a Woods though i still need a PC Socket.

Whatever the Grey Thing is (Conduit Junction?) i decided it might be worth buying to create a small fixture, though the 16 Dollar Price is a little steep for that piece alone...it is made of aluminimum which is a plus, the current setup is to have the photocell in the top threaded hole and a threaded pipe for the arm fitting in the 1-1/4" Threaded End Hole...the Ballast and socket are coming from another member,i'll likely buy the lamp locally, and a PC Socket has to come from somewhere eventually before its all complete.

Michale later created a similar fixture with This Idea except his is incandescent with a Plastic Body and a button PC instead of a Twistlock.

Interesting, a mini FCO CFL fixture, you should get one of those threaded PC sockets and if you have a band saw try making a door using the cover plate.

BTW I heard them being called conduit bodies, conduit LBs, or even Condulets although the last one is Crouse-Hind's name for it.

Threaded PC Socket?....sounds good, but where do i get one?....i was considering just getting a remote PC Socket and epoxying a Hard Rubber Cap into the top threaded insert.

what about a Band Saw? Smile

I Have a Jig Saw. Laughing

Here's a pic of one maybe some places online might have them?

Not sure if you can cut metal with a jig saw though Laughing

well, the Jig Saw i bought has Three Replacement blades....the one i have in it is rated to Cut wood, then they have blades labeled metal and plastic.

and im sure i can find a PC Socket on the net or maybe someone on one of the lighting sites. Smile

Actually forget the band saw and the jigsaw, you should make the door with a CNC machine Laughing Shocked

Don't use jigsaw...use ' one of those

@ Joe why do i need to make a door?...the Conduit body already has a cover.
joe_347V   [Jul 18, 2011 at 09:56 PM]
I was suggesting that you cut out a rectangular slot in the conduit cover and mount a piece of glass over the slot...kinda like a streetlight door Wink

What for though? Smile

So it looks more complete Razz Laughing
Form109   [Jul 18, 2011 at 10:43 PM]
i don't get it.
joe_347V   [Jul 18, 2011 at 11:41 PM]
If you look it from the bottom you'll see two mounting bosses for the cover screws, if you make a door you can cover up the bosses as well as close up the fixture. Razz

But whatever it's your project you don't have to follow my suggestions Laughing

hmmm ok joe. Razz
