Desperate times call for desperate measures. Rolling Eyes Whoever has been stealing wire is the stupid one here.

Most shoeboxes are controlled by a timer, so it wouldn't be dangerous to steal the wire when the timer is off. Most wire theives don't know that thankfully. That doesn't stop them from cutting live wires thoguh. Confused Rolling Eyes

why do you assume most shoeboxes are controlled by a timer?
gailgrove   [Oct 07, 2011 at 10:02 PM]
I meant the people that own the pole are likely fed up with people stealing the wire and having to pay to get it fixed, that's why they welded the plate on.

@ Devonte; because it's basically a solid fact. Most shoeboxes are in parking lots and most parking lots don't need lights on after a certain hour, so they use a timer to let's say turn them on from 6PM to 12AM.

Shocked I've seen crews cover up handholes with tape or strapped on the pole with band it but I've never heard of welding handholds shut before.

I've seen some parking lots here use group relay but timer seems to be the most common.

I've seen handhole covers tied shut with Shaw's shopping bags at the local Shaw's Supermarket near me. Shocked I've seen rope used, duct tape, bungi cords, electrical tape, heck I've even seen hot glue gun glue and caulking used top hold handhole covers shut. Rolling Eyes

Not always a timer you know...it may also be a relay photocell that has a shutoff feature in it after a certain hours of being lit......

And amen to the verse you just spoken which is Exodus 20:15 KJV!!!

I Agree with Jace..doesn't DTL make such a Photocell?

Well, find where i said "All shoeboxes are controlled by a timer". Well good luck finding that because that's NOT what i said. There are instances where a special PC and realy would exist, but most places have a timer.
Form109   [Oct 08, 2011 at 10:59 PM]
no one said "all" jeez
streetlight98   [Oct 08, 2011 at 11:01 PM]
"Not always" is an indication that someone said "always".
joe_347V   [Oct 08, 2011 at 11:28 PM]
Well looks like Mike said that most shoeboxes were timer controlled and then Devonte asked him why he said most were timer controlled which started this whole debate. Laughing

At the church I used to go to, they had a switch in the basement that turned on the three HPS shoebox lights in the front. Locked in a room of course. Not on a timer, just a normal heavy duty flip-switch.

Here they have tried using a pair of lamp brackets bolted across the cover, with the bolts welded. I did suggest they drill a hole through the cover and the bracket to use a bolt to prevent the bracket from being hammered down the pole to open the cover ( inventive buggers these thieves are) to steal 5m of cable worth 50c as scrap.
