This fixture does not want to come on tonight. I can't figure it out. Checked power at the fixture. Replaced photocell. I don't have another 70w mogul lamp, but I put a 100w in there and it didn't do anything either. Anyone have any ideas? I'm really hoping it's not the ballast.
hmm. I'd check the ignitor. If all the wiring connections are right, PC is good, lamp is good, it's most likely an ignitor problem.
Can you hear the ballast hum when power is applied? to know for sure try taking this down and put your ear up to the fixture while it's running. The ballast should at least give a slight hum if it's good. If the balalst hums, try a new lamp before tryign a new ignitor
Hmm, it could be the ignitor. I definitely did not hear a ballast hum. Haven't tried using a merc or incandescent in it. I'll have to look at it tomorrow, since it's too dark outside to do anything about it now.
If the ballast didn't hum, the circut isn't being completed. So it's either a bad ballast, bad ignitor, or a loose connection. If it was the lamp the balalst and ignitor would buzz. I know that happed when I ran my former 70w HPS fixture with no lamp. The ignitor would click and the ballast would make a buzz sound.
Well I can get a whole new head for about $20, so if the ignitor costs more than that, it's really not worth it. I've Googled the part number the the ignitor and the cheapest I've been able to find was about $30+shipping.
