Well, What Do You Know it Does Work. O_o
[url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-12706]Remember this?[/url] Well, after failed attempts to instant start it using some 240V chokes I decided to use a Advance IS T8 ballast I had lying around to light it up. Well here's the end result xP , note that I switched to some more expendable lamps for this pic though.

LOL it _almost_ looks like a 'real' fixture
GullWhiz   [Aug 27, 2012 at 03:03 AM]
It is probably being overdriven right now though....
xmaslightguy   [Aug 27, 2012 at 03:11 AM]
Yep it would be overdriven LOL the ballast would 'see' 1-foot of lamp and adjust for that...but would be for that of 1-foot T8's (265ma current)
A_lights   [Aug 27, 2012 at 03:14 AM]
i wonder what the current and voltage specs are for the Mini T5 lamps and the /HO ones
streetlight98   [Aug 27, 2012 at 03:44 AM]
Cool! At least you have a use for the sockets. Laughing I hope the ones in the T17s my family has are in good shape since I'll be SOL if they're not.

Laughing Now I just need to find some real T17 lamps for these sockets but I was surprised that your joke idea of putting two T5s in worked.

They're wired in series to one of the outputs on the ballast with the other capped.

Yeah i guess i wasn't exagerating after all. Shocked Laughing Very cool how this works. Almost is like a mini fixture. Very Happy
joe_347V   [Aug 27, 2012 at 04:09 AM]
Yeah it does look like a mini fixture Laughing the T17 holders are actually wider than some modern cheap T5 fixtures. Razz
xmaslightguy   [Aug 27, 2012 at 05:07 AM]
If they were modern T5HO lamps and in series like that, then connected to both outputs (2x overdrive mode for a T8 ballast) they'd actually be running at something close to proper specs (at least from what I've seen people post on another site)

Deff wouldn't want to let one go EOL with that setup Surprised LOL
A_lights   [Aug 27, 2012 at 06:12 AM]
I've fried a few EOL T5 Lamps for fun they seem to crack about half the time. ..so good thing they have EOL protection on the ballasts
xmaslightguy   [Aug 27, 2012 at 06:55 AM]
I fried a few EOL F8T5 's with a VHO ballast.

Common finding: After the warm-white tube became a daylight tube Shocked it lost vacuum
Only one cracked, and It didn't crack right away, but a couple weeks later I noticed both ends had cracked/fallen off (it was in my collection of lamps to be recycled)

Will it last? Razz
