Old 2xF40T12 (open)
A pair of old 2-lamp F40T12 fixtures. Got then free (they were headed to the dumpster...needless to say they never made it in, saved by a relative before)

The original ballasts were 277v (those are long gone now) so I swapped out for some extra 120v I had laying around.
There is a small metal piece/cover center cover missing in the image...I do have those somewhere too (as well as the fixture covers/doors/diffusers(whatever the real name is)).

Can you read the (albeit faded) UL tag in there and see if these were made by MetaLux Corp/Gibson Lighting? These are the same design as my pair with the exception of the sockets...mine are donut instead of Y-slot...
What brand/ amp rating are the ballasts in there?
xmaslightguy   [Jan 20, 2013 at 02:02 AM]
The tag/label is too faded to read (maybe I'll try taking my little battery blacklight to this...if I can find it)
The current ballasts are a GE Bonus Line & an Advance, both .8a (I don't remember what type the originals were)
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 20, 2013 at 02:04 AM]
Cool! Is the BonusLine rated for "energy saver" lamps like mine is?
xmaslightguy   [Jan 20, 2013 at 02:59 AM]
The tag/label is just too far gone for even the 'blacklight trick' to work
BonusLine ballast is only rated for 40w lamps, so its probably even older?

Yep...what does the label design look like?
Did this originally have 2 single-lamp ballasts judging by the covers?
xmaslightguy   [Jan 20, 2013 at 03:46 AM]
There's not enough of the label text to tell much, but it had 'Underwriters Laboratories' straight across the top and a 'Union Made' logo vertically on the right side.

Looks like it originally had a 2-lamp ballast even with the 2 covers - the 'ballast side' has an extra piece of silver metal mounted inside..
I do have some other pic's of the insides too (& closed up I think) if you want to see them... (looks like I set things up to do a YouTube vid for these, can't remember now if I actually made one)

Are those pics posted on here? Judging by the tag, they're like mine...
xmaslightguy   [Jan 20, 2013 at 04:25 AM]
They're not posted, but if you want I can put up a few
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 20, 2013 at 04:26 AM]
That'd be awesome...I also uploaded a pic of the ballast cover on mine...
xmaslightguy   [Jan 20, 2013 at 05:03 AM]
Not a prob since they're already on my other computer..

I do have the Advance ballast too which I can post (as well as a pic with lamps) - can post either of those, but they're not as interesting..

(do have covers/diffusers problem is there's xmas stuff in those because at one point I was using the fixture for that)
