TTC Subway Map Backlight
Well, I finally decided to make a backlight for the subway map I had in my room today. The frame is just some drop ceiling wall angles and some corner brackets to stand the stand the map off the wall.

The lights behind are two cheap Lithonia T5 strips and one Pioneer Lighting F8T5 strip in the far right. The lamps are Accupro /830 (not my choice came with the lights) and a Sylvania F8T5 /CW.

For comparison, here's how the real backlight fixtures look like.

looks very professional! Just a tad dim though IMO. where'd you get the map panel?

Thanks, it's actually brighter in reality but the camera made it look washed out so I underexposed this pic so the text is readable.

I got the map panel directly from the TTC, they started selling them recently. It's close to 6' long so it's lit with a F21T5, F14T5 and F8T5.

Yeah, my /830 F8T5 looked more like a 2700K lamp so I stuck in a /CW F8T5 for the pic. Razz Laughing Personally I prefer using all 4100K lamps, but I can't find the 3' and 2' T5s in 4100K.

what kelvin is /830 supposed to be?
joe_347V   [Apr 02, 2013 at 07:16 AM]
3000K, 80 to 89 CRI. It's the colour code used on most T8 and T5 lamps. The first digit is the CRI and the last two are the colour temp.
