NO LEFT TURN
|
Here's my latest project, a mini version of the old style backlit NO LEFT TURN signs that were common at intersections in the GTA back in the 70s and the 80s. They were killed off by reflective aluminium symbol signs. The real ones were double the size of my homemade one and had a yellow casing instead of grey. They also had a short visor.
I made this from a 10" pull box, a custom aluminium frame made from aluminium channel and a fluorescent fixture diffuser that I stenciled and painted. A ballast assembly from a two lamp PL-13 fixture provides the light.
Here's a shot of it opened up. I tried to replicate how the real ones open up so the sign panel is on a little door instead of slide in. It probably would have been easier to make the panel slide in a slot instead of a door lol.
Lamps inside are Philips PL-13/841.

I wonder if those LED strips are simply taped on with double sided tape which I sometimes see. Otherwise like you said, a lot of fasteners involved.
