My 1940 GE 400 watt Mazda Medium Pressure MV powered up!!!!
Pretty nice eh?

It actually seemed dimmer than I thought it would be.....I wonder if the ballast was powering it wrong or not....it also was kinda dimming and brightening too...kinda in a twinkling way too.....(when we closed the garage and turned off other lights)....it was interesting...but it may needed a LOT longer warm up.....We left it there for pretty LONG time....to see if it got brighter....maybe someone can explain this?

It's due to the Age of the Lamp the argon Gas is absorbed by the Glass arctube, to replemish this you have to light the lamp for a Hour yes this will indeed cause Arc Splutter and the light to bright and Dim this is OK as the argon Gas is slowly stablising, also this lamp is Classed as a Medium Pressure Mercury Lamp and would take longer to warm up and stablise than the High Pressure Mercury Lamp

Note how more greenish Blue the light looks compared to a HPMV lamp.

All the Best

now jayce i need to get one so i can put it in my form 109 Smile how do u get your hands on one ?
Form109   [Sep 11, 2010 at 03:04 AM]
If im Right....you can Only Opperate a MA Medium Pressure Lamp horizontally with a Deflecting Coil opperating to keep the arc from bowing up and melting the glass.

Rych...does your Form 109 have a Deflecting Coil in it?

no it must be a later model

Form109 is almost right....but a different lamp..... an H-1..you are wrong on a few more things.....those lamps the H-1 and AH-1 only works on Vertical mount WITHOUT the coil.......my AH-1 specifically can only go base up...not base down.....or other ways.....the H-1 goes base up as far as I know.....but the GE Form 109 ALLOWS the H-1 which us SUPPOSED to be vertical mounted be ABLE to be mounted horizontally.....makes sense?

My 250w MAs both flickered, flashed and swirled for a while before calming down. I let mine run for about an hour.
