the M-250R2s all look brand-new yet oddly enough they don't work and are being replaced with those hideous Holophane barrell shaped lights.

Mike, I'm the one who posted that........ . Yea I know they are hideous. If I ever see one around here I'll do a little target practice on it.. LoL. You mean the GE's they just put up aren't working? That's unusual . I though that's what they were replacing the Holophanes with.

They were replacing the M-250r2s with Holophane lights but did you look at the row of R2s? They were all shiney like new!

NO, Those were the replacements for the Holophane's .Thats why they look so new because they are. if you watch the video they take down that huge A frame arm with the Holophane  on it and replace it with the shorter bracket with an R2 on it, it's the first shot of the segment.

Oh yeah duh. When the reported said the lights "shot straight down whereas the new lights will project the light out more" i thouht she meant the cobraheads shot right down whereas the holphane lights would light more (but she was talking about the lamps being vertical compared to horizontal).

I actually think the holophane lights would light more but they're pretty fugly and they're glarebombs too.

Yea those things look like they need to be in China or some foreign country not the U.S.

Holophane makes some cool indoor HID lights and makes all sorts of cool OEM refractors and i like their drop lens highmasts but their street lights and other outdoor lights are pretty weird looking lol.

ahh they're very good at lighting maintenance in Canada? here they're pretty good too (except for on the freeways), mainly because i report every malfunctioning light i see. we the taxpayers pay for the lights regardless of wether they work or not so i'd prefer them to be working...

Glad you like it, I myself like to see a not so perfect light pole every so often, I don't like everything so perfect all of the time ....It's too boring. And mike I do agree I do like to see the lights working in my area too, Unless I would like to see them put something else up then I just let it go long enough for the ballast to burn up.

LOL well i try to get the lights fixed before it's too late but generally the igniter goes not the ballast.

I guess it depends on the area, in my area lighting maintenance sucks and I've seen fixtures that have been dead or cycling for years. Usually the ignitor ends up dying so they slap a new FCO light on.

do you report the lights? Here if i didn't report fixtures that didn't work there would probably be a lot more that don't work. For HPS lights, I will target dim 250W lamps (GE had an issue in the 90s that made the lamp dim out after a couple months, they loose vacuum so they don't get hot enough to warm up all the way), cycling or out lamps, and lights with missing doors. I will report lights with broken or missing refractors but i usually wait until either there's another issue like cycling since a lot of times the lamp will last longer with no refractor since there's less heat build-up.

for dayburners, I'm actually less concerned about those. NGrid overcharges for the lighting fees plus they still charge for non-working lights so the dayburners sort of level the playing field a little...
