Canada soon adopting European "Green running man" exit sign? Click to read more!

I recently read in this article that the Canadian Building Code has the intention to phase out the classic red "EXIT/SORTIE" exit sign for new constructions in favour of the European (not to say International) "Green running man" exit sign, now found in most EU countries, along with several other places in the world.



What do you think of that phase out? Should we keep the gool ol' exit sign?

The good exit sign is the one, that is easy recognized by most of the people in the middle of panic, so whatever look unusually is a bad one...

It isn't always about looks....sometimes safety is #1....i hope the man running doesn't look too plain though ;-) I do not know of the USA doing same thing.

I saw a single "EXIT" sign before in Montreal before which is also in Quebec but closer to Ontario than where Vince is.


The running man seems a bit too plain too me but it looks like it would look better if it was a running man with red or green EXIT/SORTIE combo.

I think that I might recognize the old exit sign more in a emergency though because I'm used to following the red EXIT more than the running man.

Last weekend I saw a triangle-shaped exit sign with EXIT on it! But also in my school there are two modern exit signs with "EXIT" on them. Sometime this week I'll bring my camera to school to take a couple of pics, and if I can I'll get to those two and pic them.

Well I saw one of those those newfangled exit signs today, all I can recognized the old red exit a lot easier in a busy background than the new green running man signs.

They should make the signs red. I don't like green exit signs because ithink of red as an "Alert" or "Danger" color. Green doesn't stand out to me in an emergency as much. You have to look harder.

According to the supporters of the green running man, greens evokes the safe way out, and is kinda related to the green light on traffic lights. And red exit signs would supposedly make us stop instead, ridiculous!

Red doesn't seem to stop people from walking in the exit door at WalMart. Nobody reads those Stanley Automatic Door decals.lol

Yeah, I agree for one red is MUCH more visible than green signs, and ALERTS you to the exit...aren't exit signs supposed to be highly visible, and who even thinks red would make people stop.

 The reason for color Green exit sign is because eyes are SENSITIVE to the color GREEN and is MUCH easier to see when you are under HEAVY smoke......and you are crawling below the smoke trying to find the exit.....imagine being in a dark area....

Remember green color are more sensitive to human eyes than red color...it's a fact!

There are some areas that require to have an exit sign on the lower floor (right next to the exit door) in case of a REALLLLLY heavy smoke that makes it hard to see the exit signs up high while you are CRAWLING for MERCY!
