Magnatron 175 Watt Mercury Vapor Security Light Here is the Magnatron 175 watt mercury vapor security light installed on a 4x4 post in our yard in the back of our house. I just installed this light a few weeks ago replacing a compact fluorescent security light. I will probably be removing this light and post in a few weeks cause the same guy at LCEC who gave me the OVC and OVF also gave me a junk street light pole that I will be installing as soon as the new light and mast arm I ordered for it arrives. Magnatron 175 Watt Mercury Vapor Security Light

Here is the Magnatron 175 watt mercury vapor security light installed on a 4x4 post in our yard in the back of our house. I just installed this light a few weeks ago replacing a compact fluorescent security light. That was a smart idea to strap the bracket to act as a thru-bolt. Cool

Yeah i did that to add some extra support cause these barn light arms only have 4 screws that hold it to the pole. The post is bending and cracking really bad. But im putting in the telephone pole that was given to me as soon as the 35 watt HPS AEL 115 i ordered and the 4 foot cantilever arm arrives.

35 watt? Shocked I didn't even think you could get them lower than 50 watts... I wonder is a 400 watt option could also be ordered?

I know the 315 comes in 35w HPS...

I think he said it was about 30 feet but he cut off about 4 or 5 feet off the bottom to make it lighter. And i was bringing it to my house on a 17 foot flatbed truck so we had to make it a little shorter or it would stick out off the truck too much. I'll be installing it by hand by digging the hole, bringing the bottom of the pole right next to the hole, and walking it up til it falls in the hole. Hopefully I won't be doing it by myself cause it is very heavy.

Have "fun"! I actually helped with the installation of 5 40 foot utility poles at the streetcar museum I am a member at, thankfully there was a backhoe to do all of the digging and to life the poles into place, it took about 3 hours per pole.

I didn't see the option of a 35 watt on the 115 catalog page. So i called AEL and asked them and they said a 35 watt HPS ballast is available. I ordered it so it would come with a lamp and photocontrol. Even though i have lots of brand new photocontrols that i recently ordered Very Happy I ordered the arm from Lithonia.

Im not sure. I asked the lady i talked to from AEL and she said all their lights are standard with mogul base. I hope its mogul base. It was suprisingly cheap. It includes the lamp and the photocontrol for about $110. The arm is about $50. I don't have a receipt yet. It was just ordered yesterday.

Well if its a mogul base, which I assume it would be, you will need socket adapter since 35 watt HPS lamps only come in medium base.

Well it might be medium base then. I wasn't sure if 35 watt HPS lamps come in mogul base. But i would think that if 35 watt is medium base only, they would put a medium socket in the light.

Hmm I wonder if the 115 can take a medium socket because I know some lights can only fit a mogul socket, maybe they'll ship it out with a adapter?

I know pulse start metal halide is only available in medium base for certain wattages (70-175).

Not true, PSMH lamps now come in mogul base for all wattages, also there are no 175 watt PSMH lamps and ballasts as far as I know.

I already know they make mogul base PSMH bulbs for all wattages. What I'm saying is American Electric doesn't offer mogul base in certain wattages for their streetlights.

Since the lamps are medium base I'd assume the socket will be medium base. They actually do make 175w PSMH ballasts and lamps.

My guess is mogul with a adapter since if they used a medium socket the reflector won't be sealed properly.

I actually kind of forgot, I don't see the need for them with 150 and 200 watt lamps though...

Yeah me neither. You get the lumens of a 175w probe MH lamp by using a 150w PSMH lamp. I'd Imagine 175w PSMH would be pretty bright for a side street.
