CGE 12-8-8 Arduino Controller Setup
|
Here's a shot of the Arduino based controller setup I have installed inside my CGE 12-8-8 signal.
The top left shows the Arduino board used to control the lights, the 4 channel solid state relay (SSR) board used to switch the incandescent lamps as well as the terminal block and fuse for the incoming AC line. The SSR boards are rated to switch 2A at 120v AC and seem to work fine even with the 135w incandescent lamp I have in the red section. I used a 4 channel SSR board as 3 channel solid state relay boards don't really exist.
The top right shows the original terminal block for the signal, it's being used to connect the wiring leading from the three lamp sockets to the relay board. Finally the bottom picture shows the cobbled together 120v -> 12v DC power supply I have to supply power DC power to the Arduino and the SSR board.
The program code is uploaded to the Arduino via USB using the Arduino IDE. I currently have a simple timed code which cycles from green, amber, red and back to green. Every two cycles, it'll precede the green with a brief advance flashing green. Every 10 cycles it'll flash amber for 30 seconds and finally every 20 cycles it'll flash red for 30 seconds.
