OVH closup of reflector. Here is a closeup of the reflector. As you see here I installed a new socket since the old one was worn and the wires were messed up. I think the old socket from this thing would be good for a ballast box or something as in how the socket attaches the wires. Glad I caught the bare wire behind the socket. I never knew how the socket was mounted in the OVH. It sure isn't like the M-250 R2 or M-400 R2. It's mounted on the top (or bottom) of the reflector.

It also makes the lamp point DOWN a bit. Were these lights designed to do that?

Yes. That way more light faces the road. And see how the 250w lamp isn't centered? It helps with that too. I have an older cooper catalog that I'll post. It shows the lamp in the OVY/F/D and OVG/H pointing slightly down. tHe OVF and OVY didn't come in 400w MV either. Neutral

Those have cycling issues too........There are a LOT of those i mean a LOT of those in PEPCO starting in 1998.....The first ones I saw was from 1998...I was in high school and it was a brand new school built in 1998 and I was one of the very first students in that school....The lights on the public road wasn't yet installed...until a few months later...so 1998-1999! And they kept using those OVHs until around I would say 2008-2009 there was a lot more AE 115s being used...I guess a 10 year contract with Cooper....hehehehe

Could it be the reflector material? Because it's unlikely that just about EVERY cooper cobrahead has cycling issues. The newer reflectors might be made from a cheaper quality metal......

Could be, I noticed that R47s handle 250w lamps better than Coopers.

Yeah it has to be the reflector material.

BTW, what was the point of the OVH? To handle Full Cutoff Optics better than the OVZ? Even though the OVZ DOES come in FCO.. Well the OVZ might NOT come in FCO anymore cause it's not like that on the catalog. But I know the OVZ DID come in FCO optics, probably the older ones.

It does come with a flat glass, but it's not listed as FCO because of the raised lens rim.

I don't know about that, the OVZ doesn't even have a flat glass option as I saw on the catalog.

The build you own spec sheet thing has it. under "package" choose MCO and click on Flat Glass under options.

By the way, I wonder how a Regulated Lag ballast would handle these reflectors, there wouldn't be cycling at all would there? Even in these fixtures which cycle pre-maturely?

Any HID light source with an external ingitor will cycle at the end of it's life. I don't think a ballast will prevent cycling. It's all in the quality of the reflector and lamp that decide wether or not the lamp will prematurely cycle.
